Learning Paths for Individuals

Are you new to the computer world and would like to learn Linux but don’t know where to start?

Have you used computers your whole life, and would now like to get a job using AWS?

Are you highly motivated to learn, but overwhelmed by the amount of choices?

Then Linux Academy Learning Paths are for you!

Learning Paths for Individuals

Linux Academy Flash Cards

Are you studying for an exam and need a quick way to remind yourself of the essentials?

Are you a furious note-taker that loves to organize?

Do you prefer to quiz yourself with your own words because you know that writing questions is a great way to learn and understand?

Introducing Linux Academy Flash Cards!

We’ve expanded the Notes function of Linux Academy significantly. Each course will now feature the Create Deck option for convenient note-taking and studying.

1

Once you create a deck, you can begin making flash cards. These flash cards will “live” within a course and act as your notes. However, notes are now double-sided, so that instead of having just the note itself, you have a way to quiz yourself in a manner that works for you. (more…)

Linux Academy Learning Paths!

A few weeks ago, Linux Academy introduced Learning Pipelines.  We are pleased to announce that this feature has gotten a significant upgrade and has been renamed to Learning Paths!

New Features for Admins

Inserting Sections into a Learning Path

By popular demand, we have created the ability for admins to drill down and make specific topics available to their users, rather than assign specific courses.  This will allow you to create with precision the consumable content that your team needs while effectively and efficiently managing the amount of time they need to spend learning.

To add sections to a Learning Path, you will see a new button:

4

You can add sections exactly how you would add courses, assessments or quizzes.  After clicking this button, you will first choose the topic, then choose what course you’d like the section to come from.

Linux Academy Notifications

Joining Linux Academy is a no brainer. With unlimited access to over 2,000 high-quality training labs, free server access, self-graded exercises and tons of quizzes & practice exams, there’s no reason not to sign-up.

What you may not know is the reason users STAY with Linux Academy: our vibrant community!

The Linux Academy Community is where instructors and students come together.  Whether you’re having trouble with a concept, looking for a job or just want to chat about Linux or cloud services, the Community Page is where users have been going for years.  And now, we’ve made it even easier to keep up with the latest posts.

Our community has been growing so fast that it could be difficult to see everything that’s happened.  You might have submitted a question on Tuesday, and if you didn’t log in by Thursday, your question might have been buried by one of our many Announcements and a deluge of achievements.  A glimpse of the Community below just goes to show how much activity there is in the Community.

For this reason, we’ve created a notification system that will track the posts you have interacted with.  Whether you’ve created a post or simply responded, the notification system will let you know when that thread has been replied to. (more…)

Introducing Pipelines for Linux Academy Enterprise!

Linux Academy Enterprise just keeps getting better for teams!

To compliment the ability to create sub-teams that Linux Academy added in February 2016, Enterprise accounts now have the ability to create Training Pipelines for their users.  Think of Training Pipelines as a “custom syllabus” – a way to link courses, assessments and quizzes together and assign them to individuals or sub-teams within your organization.

Server Labs – Now in Asia!

As part of our effort to continue to add value for our students, we have launched the ability to use our server lab with lab servers in the Asia region!

You now have the option to select Europe, United States, and Asia. Pick the location that you are most geographically close too (as long as you are not using a VPN). This will reduce latency when working with Linux GUI based labs. Please note that this feature is just for the Linux Server labs and does not apply to our self-paced labs.

1

With a subscription to Linux Academy, you gain access to SIX lab servers, at no extra cost!  Gain the tools that you need to take your training to the next level.  Videos are not enough – you need hands-on experience!

2

Linux Academy Labs allows you to run multiple instances of distributions at once.  This gives you access to Linux environments so you don’t have to install them on a virtual machine.  You can also use this environment to practice having servers talk to each other using their unique, private IP address.

When you aren’t working on your servers, their state will be saved automatically so your hard work doesn’t go to waste.  When you come back, your server will be there waiting for you.

Linux Server Labs are just another example of why Linux Academy is the best choice for teams and individuals to learn new skills, become certified and further their careers.

Introducing Practice Exams v2.0!

We’d like to take the time to announce an exciting new feature that is now available on LinuxAcademy.com!

Our goal is to help you pass exams and get certified for your career.  We are very proud of our courses, and have recently made a significant upgrade to the way Practice Exams work.  Not only are practice exams a great way to study, but also it teaches you how to manage your time in an exam.

When you start a new practice exam, you will have the option to take a regular exam, or to enable Practice Mode.

SS1 SS2

Regular Mode loads in a pre-set number of questions and a pre-set amount of time for you to take the exam. For example, if you’re taking AWS CSA Associate in Regular Mode, it will load 60 questions and give you 80 minutes to complete the exam, just like a real exam. These questions are random questions, the potential answers are randomized each time, and each time you run the practice exam it will randomly pull from the potential pool of questions. In order for the practice exam to be checked off of your syllabus towards your certificate of completion, you must complete the exam successfully in regular mode.

But, what if you are short on time? What if you want to answer more questions in a shorter duration? Or, do you want less questions but a longer amount of time? It doesn’t matter, you can have all! In Practice Mode, you to select your time limit and the number of questions (up to the maximum amount in the potential pool) and then take the practice exam. This helps you prepare in any different way you want for the exam, and it puts flexibility into the practice exam system based on your current needs.

SS2

Remember, you have to use Regular Mode to complete the practice exam from the syllabus. In other words, you can’t enable Practice Mode, select 2 questions and 1 hour time and it count towards your Certificate of Completion.

Here is a summary of the new features available on the practice exam system:
1. Will display the total number of questions in your exam session
2. All practice exams are now timed. If time runs out, it will automatically submit the questions you currently have for grading.
3. Practice Mode allows you to define the number of questions and time limit for an exam session
4. Question order is randomized each time a new practice exam is started
5. Answers associated with a question are also randomized each time a new practice exam is started

Please note we are still loading pre-sets for some practice exams. If a pre-set is not currently available, it will default to the max questions and max time.
