Hello again everyone! First of all, I wanted to start by saying I’m sorry that this blog post is so late in coming. I have been busy finishing up my first course at Linux Academy, Essential Container Concepts, which is coming out during our 200+ content launch this month (check out the live show schedule here), but I wanted to take a moment and say thank you to everyone who participated in our Docker image contest.
For those of you who know me, you know that it’s no exaggeration to say if I could have, I would have marked everyone a winner! However, if I did, there would be little incentive to enter any other contest or play for gems, so I will have to control myself.
To make the best of the situation, I decided to give out five prizes; one for each word in “It’s okay to be new”. The winners were chosen at random from the group of images that, when ran, produced the output, “It’s okay to be new”.
We can begin with our simplest image; straight and to the point, but I loved that the short description on the image repository stated: “It’s really OK to be new.”
Arpanbal: docker pull arpanbalpande/itsoktobenew
Next, we get a bit more creative with an image from Benny the Judge.
Benny the Judge: docker pull bennythejudge/itsoktobenew
Not to be outdone, this is one of our most involved students, Kylix. He has been a part of the Linux Academy family since before me and has been a great resource of support and advice since I joined. If you would like to be more involved in our community, make sure to join the Linux Academy Slack (linuxacademycommunity.slack.com) and join the #containers room.
Our next winner comes from the repository of Cmartell. If you have a chance, make sure to click on the link above to take a look at the Docker Hub page for this image. It is a great example of going the extra mile and providing all of the information that a potential user might need.
Cmartell: docker pull cmartell/its_ok_to_be_new
I know as a teacher and mentor I should never play favorites; however, this next image went above and beyond and quickly became one of my favorites. Amritanshu’s image is one you will want to try for yourself because every time it is run, it will generate a new graphic!
Amritanshu: docker pull amritanshu16/la_docker_contest
Thank you to everyone who entered, and if you have ideas for other contests you would like to see, make sure to leave a comment! Until next time remember, it’s okay to be new!
