Ever wonder who the voice behind your videos is? This month, we interviewed our Course Author, Derek Morgan. Get to know him a little better:
1. What do you do at Linux Academy?
I have been a Course Author for a little over 6 months. I am responsible for the “Deploying to AWS with Ansible and Terraform” and “AWS Certified Networking Specialty” courses. I am also responsible for several networking-related guides in the community.
2. What did you do before this?
Before Linux Academy, I worked for a Managed Service Provider providing services to high-profile clients. Before that, I worked at a hosting company, providing tier 2 support for Linux and Windows servers.
3. What do you do in your free time?
In my free time, I enjoy learning new things, running, climbing, biking, and pretty much anything else to stay active.
4. What’s something you’re really excited about right now?
I am really excited about the release of Cloud Assessments and what it will mean to the industry as a whole. Allowing students to prove their knowledge with hands-on labs has always been something I believed in. Being able to move away from the typical multiple choice question test format will be a great thing for the industry as a whole. Also, I’ve been learning to climb outdoors, which is pretty neat!
5. What’s your favorite part about working here?
My favorite part of working here is the ability to take an idea and create it. Whether it’s a course, a new way of teaching, or a new type of lab. Innovation is a great way to keep my mind active and always keeps me on my toes!
6. If you could have any superpower, what would it be, and why?
I’ll have to go with the cliche here and say flight. The idea of not having to deal with TSA at the airport or having to deal with ropes when climbing would make my life significantly easier at this stage!
