1. What do you do at Linux Academy?
My title is Team Lead – Sr. Graphic Designer on the Product Team. I’ve been with Linux Academy for 1 year 9 months.

2. What did you do before this?
My previous job was as a Design/Marketing Consultant for clients such as architectural firms, technology companies, education institutions, healthcare firms, trades, management companies, transportation, finance, retail, tourism, hospitality, government, and law. I did some freelance work for Linux Academy and they then hired me full time!

3. What do you like most about what you do?
Being part of a bigger picture and changing lives!

4. What’s your favorite part of working at Linux Academy?
Reading all the success stories of our students!

5. How do you live out one of our core 5 missions?
I design digital and print collateral to visually communicate what we offer. Every design task, I try to put myself in the student’s shoes and place elements strategically to what the student would want to see first, what they view as their highest priority of information.

6. What are you currently learning? 
Animation

7. What do you like to do in your free time? 
Mountain biking, kayaking, trail running, rock climbing, and traveling.

8. Favorite food
Japanese

9. Favorite quote and why?
“Our only limitations are those we set up in our own minds” – Napoleon Hill

10. What’s something you’re really excited about right now?
Traveling internationally!

12. What do you like to collect?
Vintage coins

13. If you could have any superpower, what would it be, and why?
Fly, so I can avoid traffic and lines at the airports.

14. You’re a new addition to the crayon box, what color would you be and why?
White, because it can be converted to any color.

15. Teach us something we may not know in 10 sentences or less.

  • The inventor of the Internet regrets the URL setup (regrets adding the “//” after https, it was standard for programming but didn’t serve a real purpose)
  • The Empire State building has its own zip code
  • The Eiffel Tower was originally intended for Barcelona (The Spanish city thought it was too ugly, so Gustave pitched it to Paris)
  • The Statue of Liberty used to be a lighthouse
  • Strawberries aren’t berries

16. If you could interview one person (dead or alive), who would it be?
Paula Sher, from Pentagram (design agency out of NYC), she is one of the most influential graphic designers of our time.

17. What’s one thing on your bucket list?
International travel

18. What’s one of your favorite projects you’ve worked on at Linux Academy?
2017 AWS re:Invent Booth Graphics where we made the student the focus of the booth with their photos on the front of rotating boxes and their story on the back. This was an inspirational project for us as well as the students who went to the conference.
